STAINED BAMBOO BLINDS | DIY
02/09/2022I honestly don’t know why I do the things I do sometimes. Why I ordered white blinds for the already white family room I’ll never know. These budget-friendly custom blinds from JC Penney several years ago are great. They would be even better in a warm wood tone. I’ve been tempted many times over the last several years to buy new bamboo shades but couldn’t justify spending the money again when what I had was perfectly fine.
So….YOLO. I stained them a pretty warm wood tone to match the wood floors.
Using a foam brush, I coated the blinds front and back in the same “Early American” stain that I used on the wood floors.
I bought a little pack of wood tassels on Amazon to replace the original white ones and $6 later, I had new wood-toned bamboo blinds that I actually love. They instantly made the room cozier.
The blinds were actually a little harder to pull up after the stain so I used a piece of waxed paper and rubbed over the strings on the back which helped a ton. It was 110% worth taking a leap of faith to get the look I wanted without buying brand new again.
My motto is, if you don’t love something in your home, don’t be afraid to try to make it better on a budget. Chances are you won’t regret it.

Thank you for the inspiration! Did you have lingering fumes? If so, did you do anything to help get rid of it?

There were fumes for about a day after doing it, as with anything stained, but we didn’t notice anything after that.
