ST. PATRICK’S DAY MOSS BOWL DIY
03/06/2023Moss bowls are popular these days but can be pricey to purchase. To me, moss seems to lend itself to St. Patrick’s Day so I attempted to make my own moss bowl for the holiday.
I have used this black dough bowl in many, many different ways over the years. It was perfect for my DIY moss bowl but I wanted to be able to remove the moss once I was done with it and not ruin the bowl. I started with a bubble wrap base to give the moss a mound shape. To keep the bubble wrap adhered to the bowl without glue I used EZLIFEGO double-sided tape. It peels right off the wood when ready to remove.
Using a hot glue gun, I glued preserved forest moss to the bubble wrap.
Then I glued a few contrasting moss pieces from a variety pack in random spots along with an old horseshoe salvaged from my parents barn.
Finally, I used a paper punch to cut a few shamrocks from an artificial leaf I pulled off of old fake flowers.
And that’s my St. Patrick’s moss bowl with a lucky horseshoe completely removable from the bowl when the holiday is over. The moss can be reused, as well, by pulling off the glue pieces and saving the moss for the next project.
Here is how I displayed the moss bowl along with my moss shamrock flower pick and tulips.
