SAVING ANNUAL & PERENNIAL SEEDS
08/09/2023Did you know that you can save seeds from many annuals, perennials, fruits, vegetables and herbs to grow more next year? It can be tricky if you really dig deep into saving seeds of fruits and vegetables when it comes to hybrid varieties, cross-pollination, etc. I’m more of a beginner this year and am mostly starting with annual and perennial seeds. We’ll see how it goes next spring. I learned what little I know from Google and YouTube.
Just this week I direct sowed some of the cilantro, dill and onion seeds in the garden to grow more this fall and saved the rest for next spring.
The main thing I learned is to let the blooms dry completely, harvest the seeds, allow to dry more and then place the seeds into a labeled envelope. Keep envelopes in a cool, dry place until spring rolls around. Anyone have any other tips for a beginner seed collector? If I have any success, I plan to save more next year and do a seed giveaway for my blog friends.
