Happy Memorial Day a day late. The unofficial start of summer is here. I spent part of the holiday weekend adding red, white and blue outside around the house and barn. Let me show you around. The front patio is pretty much the same as last year with the addition of the buntings. Flags always adorn the ferns. That’s a given. Lots of green with a little red, white and blue. I should have spray painted the front door urn this spring but never did. I think we’re going with the rustic look this year. The porch in all it’s patriotic glory. Went back with last year’s faux geraniums again. They look pretty darn real to me and add a little color to all the green. Memorial Day, Flag Day & Independence Day. I’m all set! IN MEMORY | FRAMED PRESSED FLOWER

When my husband’s dad passed away at the end of last year, I saved a flower from one of the bouquets at his service and pressed it so it could be framed. After pressing for a week, I then set the pieces aside for several weeks before framing to make sure it was completely dry. The full rose was too thick to fit in the frame so I pulled the petals off the stem and used only a few with the most color. Using glue dots, I arranged the petals on the back side of the insert that came in the frame. I regret not using an ivory or sage green cardstock as the background as I’m not fond of the stark white. How does the weekend go by so quickly? I worked my tail off from 4:00pm on Friday until 7:00pm tonight (Sunday) getting the final things planted around the yard, staining the deck and new garden fence, sealing the garden beds and prepping the new wildflower/pumpkin/sunflower patch in the field. Good thing because it doesn’t look like I’m going to get much done over Memorial Day weekend with rain chances every day. Rain or shine, I’ll be decking the house in red, white and blue to enjoy from Memorial Day weekend through the 4th of July. I think it will be a good weekend to smoke some meat, too. What about you, any big plans for next weekend?
