I have two places where, when I water, the garden hose pulls through my flower beds and destroys the plants. It’s happened for years. I finally decided enough is enough and solved the problem this year with a simple garden stake. Why do we live with problems even when there is a simple solution? You can see here where the plants wouldn’t grow from the hose coming around this corner. The solution was a cute heavy duty hose guide. There are many styles available. I went with a little bird on a leaf. The hose now stays on the outside of the flower bed allowing the plants to fill in the bare spots and I’m no longer mad at myself for not fixing the situation sooner. A simple fix to a years long problem. What problem can we solve next?

HELLO | FRONT DOORMAT REFRESH
05/20/2024
Welcome! We freshened up for your arrival. Glad you’re here. I can’t stop the black and white around our home’s exterior. It’s just meant for this house. I did a little spring refresh with new layered doormats. (shopping links below) I’m loving the new plastic rugs. I first got the rug shown HERE last year and it lasted so well, I bought another as a layering rug with the coir door mat. The plastic rugs are reversible, waterproof, fade-resistant and made from recycled plastic. I also bought the large 9×12 version of the striped plastic rug for my back patio this year. I hear the plastic rugs work well when camping, too, because they fold up and store easily when not in use.

FIREPLACE DECOR UPDATE | SUMMER
05/17/2024
Step into my head as I redecorate the fireplace for summer. I’ve condensed one hour into 73 seconds of what it’s like when I redecorate an area in my home. I have a lot of plants. They are usually the first thing I add since light determines where they can go. Then I grab things from around the house that I might want to use depending on the season. Add a few things. Step back and look. Readjust. Step back and look. There is a lot of pondering and standing with my “bat wings out”, as my husband says. Are hands on the hips not everyone’s thinking stance? Once I have the base of plants and the smaller knick knacks, I add height where needed. Candlesticks work well for this. Height can also be added with a vase of floral stems or greenery, even a lamp. Books are usually...
