HOW TO USE FOLIAGE AS DECOR
10/28/2022
An inexpensive way to decorate is to use foliage. I like to grow things in the yard that I can, in turn, use as decor inside and out. Here are a few of the ways I have used foliage as decor around my home. As a self-diagnosed cheapskate, I’m all for anything free. HYDRANGEA BLOOMS Hydrangeas are both gorgeous in bloom in the summer and as they dry into the fall. While I love to bring in a bouquet of fresh flowers in the summer, I make sure to leave plenty to harvest in the fall, as well. Here I simply placed a grouping of dried hydrangeas into a unique bowl from Home Goods. It will last me from September to November as fall decor. If I really wanted to, I could save the blooms and use again next year. TREE BRANCHES Simple dead branches can be brought in...

HOW TO ROAST PUMPKIN SEEDS
10/24/2022
If carving pumpkins is on your list this week, be sure to save the seeds to roast and start a new family tradition while you’re at it. You can play it safe and go with basic salt and pepper flavoring. Or experiment with flavors like Ranch, Everything Bagel, pickle, spicy, sweet, salt and vinegar, pizza, taco, bacon, garlic parmesan, BBQ, cinnamon-sugar, whatever you can dream up. Maybe try a new flavor each year. It’s a fun memory your kids will carry with them as they grow older and begin families of their own. Begin by collecting the seeds from a fresh pumpkin. Place in a colander and rinse, using your hands to scrub away any pulp. Spread on a dish towel and dry thoroughly. Place dry seeds in a bowl. For the seeds of one medium-sized pumpkin, add about 1 tablespoon liquid such as olive oil or melted butter....

POISON FROG | HALLOWEEN COCKTAIL
10/19/2022
If the kids get candy for Halloween, the adults should get cocktails. That’s my view anyway. May I present to you the Poison Frog. Midori liqueur gives this drink the cool green color and, mixed with sweet and sour, tastes like a sweet tart. Add a small chunk of dry ice, if desired, for the fog. DRY ICE WARNING: Use tongs to place dry ice into glass. Never touch dry ice with bare hands. Use small chunks of dry ice. If you use too much, it will bubble over and splatter EVERYWHERE. Do not drink until dry ice has melted. The bubbling should be last about 5 minutes before the ice has dissolved. CAUTION: Black decorating sugar will stain your mouth. Use if you dare. Cheers to Halloween! Click HERE to print recipe.
