SUPER BOWL LVII | GO CHIEFS!
02/06/2023
It’s super bowl week and I’m reaaadddy! Since my living room isn’t large enough to hold everyone, I’m inviting you in early for a peek at the setup for the big game on Sunday. Throughout the week I’ll be sharing the DIYs in my setup and a few of the recipes I’ll be making. I hope you’ll stick around. The dining room will be the central food and beverage location so it is decked out in Chiefs red and gold. l I love to decorate for a party! This two-tiered tray typically holds fruits and vegetables in the kitchen. Here I repurposed it as a snack tray. I cut short lengths of a red and gold foil curtain to line the baskets, added twinkle lights and filled with a variety of candies, chips and crackers. The football utensil holder has been used at multiple college tailgate parties for both...

BIRD TREAT GARLAND
02/02/2023
It’s day four of the week of homemade bird treats here on the blog. Today is a simple project stringing bird-friendly treats to make a garland similar to the popcorn garlands we made at Christmas at school when I was younger. String the garland from branch to branch, around a pine tree, or hang straight down from a tree branch. I made mine shorter and hung it on my potting bench. I used plain popcorn, dried oranges, raisins, dried cranberries and apple slices. Other bird-friendly options include blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, lemon slices, lime slices, pear slices, pineapple, strawberries, pumpkin seeds, slices of corn on the cob, dandelions, Cherrios. Just make sure nothing gets moldy. Mold is unsafe for birds just as it is for humans. I will admit, I opted to use jute twine for my garland. It was a little thicker and did make it a bit harder...

HOMEMADE BIRDSEED WREATH
01/29/2023
This week is for the birds, literally. All this week I will be sharing different homemade bird treat recipes to keep the birds fat and happy this winter. Watching the birds outside my office window makes the work days better so I’ll happily make them treats to keep them coming back. And I’ve learned from experience to put all bird food high enough that the dogs can’t snatch it. Dogs eating suet cakes does not make pretty outcome. Today I’ll be sharing how to make a birdseed wreath. You’ll need: 1/2 cup water 1 envelope unflavored gelatin 3/4 cup flour 3 tablespoons corn syrup 4 cups birdseed NOTE: This recipe makes a thin wreath that fills a bundt pan halfway. I doubled the recipe to fill a bundt pan. This does make the mold heavier so it’s recommended to add half the mixture to a bundt pan, then place...
