A CLOSE-UP LOOK AT THE FLOWERS IN MY GARDEN
07/10/2023
I have this thing where I grow flowers in my garden with hopes of cutting stems for bouquets to bring inside for the summer. Then, I never cut them because I don’t want to cut all the blooms off the plants. Welcome to a peek inside my mind. Have you ever taken an extra close look at summer’s flowers? As beautiful as they are at first glance, they are even more stunning up close. I took a walk around my yard and snapped close up photos of the blooms. I guess I’ll enjoy them this way instead of in vases in my house. I hope you enjoy, too. SCABIOSA (PINCUSHION FLOWER) How cool is this!? Anther color of scabiosa, a bee’s best friend. COMMON SUNFLOWER I caught this in mid-bloom. So neat! The next day it was fully opened. DAYBREAK COREOPSIS These scream “fall” to me. And the good...

DIY ESSENTIAL OIL BUG SPRAY
06/30/2023
With 4th of July also comes sitting outside in the yard waiting for fireworks while simultaneously swatting mosquitoes, at least here in Missouri. But I’m prepared this year. I’ve got my mosquito deterrent planter and my DIY bug spray. With any luck there won’t be a bug within 6 feet of me. To make homemade bug spray you’ll need a 4 ounce spray bottle, 2 ounces witch hazel or vodka, about 40 drops bug deterring essential oils, 2 ounces distilled water and a pinch of table salt to help the oils mix with the water. Bug deterring essential oils include citronella, lemon, peppermint, lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, purification, and lemongrass individually or in any combination. I used peppermint, lemon and lavender. Citronella is on my list of oils to purchase next. Mix all ingredients together and spray on your skin and around where you’re sitting to keep the...

4TH OF JULY PAINTED YARD STARS
06/27/2023
Back in the day before 911, when regular citizens could purchase and set off commercial fireworks, we had a 4th of July party every year and my husband set off our own big fireworks display in the open land behind our house. I wish I would have thought of these fun painted yard stars back then. Aren’t they perfect for a 4th of July party? The best part is, they are so simple to make. Just take a large piece of cardboard and draw a star. I flattened a box from the trash. Use a box cutter to cut out the star shape. Then use the cardboard as a template to spray paint stars onto the grass. The kids will love them. Ooooh, you could even make them into a hop scotch pattern and they could jump on them. How fun!
