BACKYARD PATIO REMODEL PROGRESS
07/24/2023
This week on the blog we’ll be talking all things home remodeling. Why we do it. How we pay for it. What it’s like to live through it. And whether it’s worth the hassle in the end. We’re going to begin the week with one of our current projects – the back patio remodel. To start, let’s take a look back at where we started when we purchased our house. This was the listing photo of our backyard. Not bad! But upon closer look you can see the pergola had many missing shingles, the roof leaked in the rain and the wood was majorly rotted. The existing patio pavers were uneven and sinking into the ground. The back patio had been installed too far up on the brick of the house which caused water to run into the basement during heavy storms. After six years of living here, we...

CRUSTY BREAD + BUTTER CANDLE
07/17/2023
Did you see the viral butter candle TikTok trend from awhile back? I finally jumped on the bandwagon and gave it a try. I have to say, it’s very simple to make and kind of fun. The only trick you need to know is to make sure the water is lukewarm, 98 to 105 degrees, so the yeast will activate. If you do that, I promise you’ll have success with this...

FRONT PORCH REMODEL | LOGAN’S FIRST HOUSE
07/13/2023
It was just over two years ago that our son, Logan, bought his first home during COVID and the crazy housing boom. Since then he’s been making small upgrades here and there including a brand new bathroom, reconfigured the kitchen cabinets to add a dishwasher, new concrete counters and, most recently, a new sidewalk, front door and landscaping. The photo below was the listing photo. The next photo was his first day as a new home owner. The landscaping didn’t look terrible. But what you can’t see is that the sellers just put weed mat on top of the existing random plants in the flower bed and added a couple of bushes and mulch on top of that. It needed to all come out and be redone. The concrete sloped toward the house which caused water to pool at the strange front half step. The stepping stones were slick...
