OUR BARN | FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
07/19/2022Last year we built a barn and I’m amazed by the number of people that stop by to ask questions about it. Generally we are dirty, sweaty and probably smell from working outside (so sorry!), but we are honored when people stop to chat! If I’m the only one around, I don’t always know all of the answers so I thought I would gather the info. and blog about some of the frequently asked questions we get regarding the barn.
Who built your barn? The #1 asked question. We built it ourselves. After searching for barn builders with availability within a year that didn’t quote sky high because they were already too busy and coming up empty, we decided to just build it ourselves. My husband and son did most of the work with a help from friends along the way.
Do you build for others? No. Absolutely no. No way. No. One time was more than enough.
What size is your barn? 40′ x 60′ with 14′ sidewalls and a 10′ x 60′ lean-to.
What type of barn is it? Pole barn.
Did you purchase a barn package? No. We knew what we wanted the barn to look like. The size of the barn determined the material list.
Where did you purchase the barn materials? The trusses, poles, pole bases, windows and walk-thru door came from Economy Metals in Centrallia, MO.
Is the floor gravel or concrete? Concrete by Bishop Concrete. We epoxied the concrete floors ourselves with two-part epoxy.
Where did you purchase the cedar shutters? We made them, first for our house, then for the barn to coordinate. See the blog post HERE on how we made them.
Are your overhead doors faux painted? No, they are Gallery Wood Grain metal doors in “medium finish” from Royal Door. The large door is 12’x12′ and the smaller door is 7’x8′. They match the garage door on our house. We added magnetic carriage hardware to all of the doors.
If anyone has any other questions, feel free to leave a comment here and I’ll add to the post.
