MOVING HOUSE PLANTS OUTDOORS IN THE SUMMER
05/11/2023My plan for the front porch this summer was to create a plant jungle by bringing many of my houseplants outdoors. I wanted it to almost look like a plant store. My vision came to life and I’m loving it.
The idea started with wanting some sort of plant table to elevate the plants so they weren’t all on the ground. I searched Facebook Marketplace but ultimately ended up finding this plant stand on Amazon. It fit perfectly in the space between the windows. There are many different sizes and configurations of plant stands so it’s easy to find just the right fit for whatever the space.
My favorite summer evening relaxing spot made extra cozy amongst the plants.
The plants paired with my yearly Boston ferns, black rockers and DIY tree stump table all work together to bring my idea to reality. It makes me so happy.
A few tips to remember when bringing plants outside:
- Be sure house plants are placed in a shaded area outside, preferably covered. Direct sun can easily burn leaves.
- A general rule of thumb is to water every three days in temperatures under 85 degrees. Increase watering to every day in temperatures over 90 degrees.
- When bringing plants back inside in the fall, thoroughly flood plant soil with water to drive out any bugs or spiders prior to moving.
Typically I purchase annual flowers to dress up the porch which isn’t cheap. This year’s green theme cost me nothing but the $44 cost of the plant stand and the porch looks much fuller. It’s a win for me.
I’m almost ashamed to admit this isn’t even close to all my house plants. I did keep some inside mostly because my front porch wasn’t big enough for them all.
What do you think? Will you be bringing any houseplants outdoors for the summer?
