MOSQUITO REPELLING PLANTER | WHAT TO PLANT
05/14/2024This is the second year I’ve done a mosquito repelling planter for the back patio seating area. (See last year’s version and a list of mosquito deterring plants HERE) It looks pretty and helps keep those pesky mosquitos away. But does it really work? It does if the plant scent is released by crushing a leaf. Rub the crushed leaf on your arms or just leave a few crushed leaves on the table nearby.
This is what I planted this year – lemon balm, citronella (AKA scented geranium), lavender, lemon grass, lanta and tricolor sage.
Remember, small planters dry out quickly in hot weather. Water once a day – twice a day when the temperatures reach above 90 degrees. Set the planter in a water catching tray to keep the table clean from excess water.
Pair the planter with a rechargeable cordless diffuser filled with mosquito deterring essential oils for double duty repelling.
