MASTER CLOSET MOOD BOARD
08/14/2023We finally finished the outdoor project for the summer. Now we’re on to one of the existing projects inside. Our clothes have been located upstairs in the spare bedroom for the last two months. It’s time to get this bedroom turned master closet finished!
This was our original master closet. It was about six feet long by five feet wide with two hanging racks on each side. While we’ve had smaller in the past, this one was always packed pretty full.
The room across the hall was one of five bedrooms in the house. It was originally my office. When our son moved out, I moved my office into his old room in order to make this space our new laundry/master closet.
The room will stay the same with the exception of removing the old office and master closets and shutting off the original door. Don’t need anyone walking by as I’m changing clothes in the new closet!
Here you can see where or master closet door is located and how we removed the original closet walls.
And this is where we are at currently. The original bedroom door has been closed off to the hallway and sheetrock is complete. I’m not quite sure what we are going to do in the old doorway space yet. Maybe shelves for linens or sweaters, maybe my make-up nook, maybe a piece of furniture, maybe a full-length mirror with my jewelry hanging on the walls. To be determined. We couldn’t remove the short wall because the header would run into the existing air return which would open up a whole can of worms we didn’t want to deal with.
This is my vision for the final product. Fun wallpaper in the laundry/shoe area. Dusty blue painted walls in the rest of the room with black pipe clothing racks and shelves on all three remaining walls. We’ll be continuing the pine floors into the closet. The center of the room will have a coordinating rug under an island of dresser drawers topped with a counter for folding clothes. A fun light overhead will replace the boring existing ceiling fan. And, I picture gorgeous blush velvet curtains on both windows. It will be a dream come true to have a closet this big with the laundry included. No more hauling the laundry from one end of the house to the other. Which brings up another house project when the laundry is removed from the mud room. Other the plans I have! Think mud room/dog wash. 🙂
