HOW TO MAKE A DISCO CHRISTMAS TREE
12/12/2022I decided to incorporate all things disco balls into Christmas in my office this year. 2022 turned out to be the year of the disco ball at my house. The sparkles just make me happy and I don’t plan on cutting down in 2023.
I still need to find something to put in my disco ball planter. I also had plans to make various sized disco Christmas trees but I went back to Hobby Lobby right after Thanksgiving and there was no sign of the paper mache tree shapes anymore. Now I know why people start Christmas decorations in October. I did purchase one tree form before Thanksgiving for a test run and I’M IN LOVE. I will be making more. Amazon to the rescue.
I started my project with a brown paper mache Christmas tree that I spray painted silver.
Starting at the bottom, I cut strips of mirror tiles the correct length to meet in the back. The strips are self-adhesive so they stick right to the form. Continue later after layer up the tree.
You can see that not every row lines up perfectly but that’s okay. That is why I spray painted the tree silver. It helps camouflage where the tiles don’t meet up exactly. Plus, it’s the back of the tree. No one will ever know.
When the tree is completely covered, you can leave as is or add a mirrored star to the top.
This is just the start of my Christmas disco ball themed office. I’ll share the other side of the room and those DIYs in the next few days. Think disco ball garland. Now I’m looking at these photos wishing I had put disco balls in the greenery. Dang it, I can’t stop!
