HOW TO ANTIQUE METALLIC FALL DECOR
09/12/2022Let’s take these fall/Halloween ceramic metallic decorations and make them even cuter by applying a simple DIY antiquing technique. I grabbed these cute skulls, acorns and pine cones from Dollar Tree for $1.25 each. They have pumpkins, as well, but were out at my local store.
I laid them out on a piece of cardboard – one group to be painted silver and one group to be painted gold. The only supplies needed were spray paint and a spray bottle with vinegar.
I started by spraying with vinegar then immediately with a coat of spray paint and, while the paint was still wet, sprayed on more vinegar. Then I let them dry. That’s it. The whole process only took a few minutes.
I am thrilled with the final finish. I may just be trying this technique on any metallic ceramic decor I can get my hands on. Just think – Christmas trees, ornaments, reindeer, oh my! Dollar Tree, I’m counting on you this Christmas.
I mean look at that patina just from spray painting a copper colored acorn with gold spray paint and adding vinegar.
The patina on the silver with silver spray paint isn’t quite as drastic but still pretty.
Then it was time to decorate. There are so many places I could use these.
I think I’m obsessed.
Let me know if you try this technique. I would love to see how yours turned out!
