HOMEMADE ROSE BATH SALTS
05/09/2023I’ve got another Mother’s Day gift idea for you today. I actually made it for myself because (1) it smells like fresh roses (2) the salts help relax muscles (3) the rose oil is good for the skin and (4) it’s cute decor on the shelf when I’m not using it.
Is there a mom that doesn’t need an excuse for a long soak in the bathtub in the peace and quiet surrounded by all her favorite bathtime things? Make her a batch of homemade rose bath salts and she’ll feel like she’s soaking in a bathtub of fresh roses.
Take it up another notch by making her this DIY bath tray to hold her favorite bath items. And, if you’re going for favorite status, add a bottle of wine, fresh flowers, a scented candle, a hair clip and a good book or magazine. You’ll be her favorite person for the next year.
Rose bath salts are made with all natural ingredients. Salts used can be any one or a combination of epsom salt, dead sea salt Himalayan pink salt or coarse sea salt.
Rose oil gives the salts their yummy scent. A heads up I learned the hard way. Rose oil is expensive. I bought a small bottle for $34 thinking I would use any leftover in my diffusers. Then I realized the salt recipe takes the entire $34 5 ml bottle. That makes for 2 1/2 cups of lovely but expensive bath salts. I would recommend the cheaper alternative of therapeutic grade rose fragrance oil.
Polysorbate 80 mixes with the rose oil to keep the oil from floating on top of the bath water. And for a pretty touch, rose petals and/or rose buds can be added.
Store the salt mixture in a pretty sealed container for heavenly scented bath salts for up to 2 years.
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups (or any combination of) epsom salt, pink Himalayan salt, dead sea salt or coarse sea salt
1 tablespoon polysorbate 80

1/4 cup dried rose buds
Directions
- In a small bowl mix together polysorbate 80 and rose oil. Stir until thoroughly combined.
- Add salt(s) to a large bowl. Pour rose oil mixture over salt and mix until oil is fully incorporated into the salt.
