DIY Velvet Hair Bows
12/14/2023Velvet hair bows are all the rage right now.
Who remembers way back in the day when I made hair bows for my daughter which then turned into a little business selling fancy hair bows on Ebay? It’s like riding a bicycle after all these years. I pulled out my ribbon stash and made a collection my own velvet bows in about 10 minutes.
I used 1″ velvet ribbon but type of ribbon and any size 1/4″ up to 3″ will work.
- Beginning with a 9 inch tail, tie a bow like normal.
- If using velvet ribbon, be sure to twist the ribbon before pulling the second loop through. This ensures the velvet sides are all facing forward.
- Make sure bow loops are the same size.
- Cut tails to desired length. I cut mine to 8 inches.
- Using a lighter, carefully heat ribbon ends to seal. This eliminates fraying.
- Hot clue desired hair clip to back of bow. I used an alligator clip. French clips, snap hair clips or an elastic can be used, as well.
Here is a little video of me in action making a bow.
That is all there is to making your own DIY hair bows.
