DIY FALL RAFFIA WREATH
09/19/2024As I began to dream up what I wanted to do on the front porch for Halloween this year (HERE is the Halloween porch last year), I knew I wanted a wreath of good size that would work Halloween through to Thanksgiving. This year I’m thinking lots of natural, found fall elements as the base with Halloween mixed in. When Halloween is over, the fall look will last until Thanksgiving. That inspired this DIY wreath made only from a wire wreath form and raffia.
I tied small bunches of raffia, about 18 inches long, around a 16 inch wreath form. I ended up using one and a half packages of raffia.
The finished wreath ended up being about 20-24 inches across. I went for a messy look but the final wreath could be neatly trimmed for a more compact, perfectly shaped wreath, if desired. As the wreath came together, I was questioning whether this project was going to be a huge fail. But I kept going and I’m happy with the final result. The evenings this week were nice and cool so spent several sitting on the back patio, listening to the Royals games tying knot after knot while watching the full harvest moon rise over the barn. It turned out to be quite relaxing. The raffia does make a bit of a mess so it was the perfect outside project.
NOTE: I do plan to hang this wreath on my covered front porch out of the elements but it’s currently full of houseplants that will need to be moved inside soon. I won’t be leaving it here on the back patio to get wet. That was way too much work to get destroyed by rain. Check back here soon to see it in its intended spot when I complete the fall/Halloween front porch.
