CRAFT ROOM REVEAL | FLOORS & WALLS
07/03/2023It’s been a long six years (six years and three months to be exact) since we moved and my craft stuff has been packed away in boxes waiting for the day we remodeled the basement. The time has FINALLY come. The first room (almost) complete in the basement is my craft room. I had an awesome space in the basement of our last house for all my craft items. I’m excited to make this space even better.
This is where we started.
During.
We left the ceilings open and sprayed them in Valspar 2000 Paint + Primer from Lowes in “Dark Kettle Black” in a flat sheen.
And here it is now.
The space is long and narrow, about 200 square feet. It looks spacious but I’m afraid it’s going to be filled to the brim as soon as I start moving stuff into the room.
My floral storage wall. I shared more close-ups and progress shots of it HERE.
This is the view standing at the floral wall looking back to the door. The final project that needs to be completed before I can begin moving everything in is a long 16-foot work desk along the wall to the right in the photo below. We’ll be building that soon.
The entire room was designed around this flooring. I wanted a clean, finished space so I really didn’t want to leave the floors just concrete. I didn’t want the mess of sanding down the concrete to be able to stain it so that was out. We have wood floors throughout the upstairs so I wanted something different in the basement. It needed to be fairly inexpensive. It is just a craft room, after all. That’s when these pretty faux marble tiles became the inspiration for the room. They are peel and stick. So simple to install, I could do it on my own. But thankfully I didn’t have to do it on my own. My son helped install the floor which is a good thing for my math-challenged mind when it came to cutting the edge pieces.
The wall design evolved over the project due to a misunderstanding during the build-out but I think it turned out just fine. I went with peel and stick wallpaper and attempted to wallpaper for the first time on my own. It was actually pretty simple since the sections were small and pretty square due to it being a new-build.
I’m thrilled with how it is turning out and can’t wait to put it to good use.
