If you haven’t already heard, let me introduce you to my newest hobby, Christy B’s Barnstand. It’s my take on an honor system roadside farmstand.
When naming my farmstand, I decided to keep with the “B” theme after Christy B Photography and this blog, It’s Me, ChristyB. I went with “barnstand” instead of “farmstand” because (1) my farmstand is a mini replica of our barn and (2) I intend to stock a variety of items over and above fresh produce from my gardens. I actually have to give credit to my daughter for suggesting “barnstand”. I think it’s perfect.
I’m a sucker for anything sentimental and this barnstand has a pretty special meaning. The wood used was saved from my great-grandparent’s home which was right next to my childhood home. It later became my grandparent’s home. Both sets of grandparents had a garden in the backyard. I can remember helping them pick goodies in the summer. Fast forward to last year, that home was torn down. My dad saved the best wood scraps during the tear-down process. He was kind enough to let us use that wood to build the barnstand.
With no plans other than my wish to make our farmstand mimic our barn, my husband turned old wood scraps and leftover metal from our barn build into this cute barnstand.
In addition to fresh produce from my gardens, there will also be homemade baked goods including a variety of sourdough, fresh breads and some of my favorite sweet treats. I am a self-professed sugaratarian so I’m pretty much an expert at sweet treats. I’m sharing my love of houseplants by offering easy-to-grow varieties pre-potted with care cards to help ensure success in their new homes. The summer months will feature fresh flower bouquets and sunflower stems from my wildflower/sunflower garden. Pumpkins, mums and fall perennials will soon follow with firewood bundles, greenery and wreaths in the winter. I have so many fun ideas for things to stock in the barnstand with new additions each weekend.
It was originally my intent to open the barnstand on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. However, working a full-time job that often requires overtime and needing to completely add and remove stock each morning/evening until we find a way to secure the stand, I have decided the barnstand will be open 8:00am until dusk every Saturday and Sunday until further notice, weather permitting. My plan is remain open weekends through the end of the year. The barnstand will be closed in January and February to reenergize and hopefully enjoy some sun somewhere warmer than Missouri in the winter. We will reopen in early spring for the next season.
The barnstand is located at 1909 Woodlawn, Pleasant Hill, MO. It is self-serve and works on the honor system. We accept cash and venmo. If you’re local, I hope you’ll stop by. You can also follow on Instagram, @itsme_christyB, for a look at what will be added to the barnstand each weekend.
