Though I’ll miss it dearly as soon as the nasty, cold weather arrives, it’s out with summer… …and in with fall. It’s actually still a little bit of both seasons right now and I’ll happily take that. I kept the setup pretty much the same as summer and just switched a few of the tired summer plants out with lush fall plants and added a few pumpkins. I actually grew all of the pumpkins here but the biggest one on the top right. Added in a dead tree limb from the yard and fall has arrived. This is the...

It’s like my adult playtime when I get to drag everything out that was stored away for the winter. My potting bench was one of the first things I prepped for the upcoming summer. I’m slowly adding to my terra cotta pot collection that I display from spring through fall on the potting bench. No, I don’t really plant things in them. They’re more just for looks because they get prettier with age. It gives me hope for myself. This bust if my favorite thing. She looked a little bare so I pulled up some of the vinca vine...
A little spring cleaning in the garage today motivated me to move all my terracotta pots out to the potting bench. Might as well use them to dress it up until it’s time to start potting summer’s flowers. I can’t wait!
I took these photos last week as the first snow of the season started to fall. Currently, a week later, everything on the potting bench is hidden under 10 inches of snow. I can’t wait to be able to use it again for its intended purpose in the spring. I kept it pretty simple this year and did something that worked, not only for Christmas, but the whole winter season. I’ve never left greenery out past Christmas but I like that it adds a touch of color in the winter. Also featured are my DIY concrete trees and pine...
Blake Skelton has become a member of the garden club since he’s been visiting. He’s a master gardener at the potting bench. Do you know how Blake Skelton learned a rumor about one of his friends? The Skull-ttlebutt around town. Those garden club members are a chatty bunch. Voila. Perfectly potted mums. This year’s fall potting bench continues the theme from the front porch of sticks and crows. Throw in some pumpkins and it makes for what I think is an adorable fall/Halloween potting bench. I’m going to be so sad when the first freeze finally kills all the...
Are you a fan of bust planters? I know some love them and some not so much. I happen to love them. I have a couple inside and now I have one outside that is the newest addition to my summer potting bench. Can you tell I prefer the “fuller the better” look on my potting bench? There is just enough room for repotting plants, as needed. The summer version of my potting bench might be on of my favorites. Plants – and summer – make me happy. I would link her but she is sold out. Believe it...
The annuals are planted and my potting bench is dressed for summer. I opted to go with mostly purple and green foliage in my pots this year versus flowering annuals. I painted my terra cotta strawberry pot black this year and added succulents instead of strawberries. I love their variation of colors. Until the back porch remodel is complete, my mosquito deterrent pot will live on the potting bench. The pansies planted back in March are still hanging on. Once the heat takes over, I’ll remove them from the mix. I enjoy being able to display my collection of...
I have already been putting my potting bench to good use this spring repotting house plants and getting an early start with a few pansies outside. It feels good to be back outdoors with my hands in the dirt. And it feels good to have my potting bench looking cute for spring. My terra cotta pots are all out where I can see what I have as I slowly plant the summer flowers. Only a few more weeks until it’s officially safe to start planting more flowers. Happy spring!
Notice the simple addition to the potting bench for March? I kept what is left of the homemade bird treats and added a simple moss shamrock from the Dollar Spot at Target. I was initially going to DIY a moss shamrock until I found exactly what I hoped to make for only $5 premade. It couldn’t have been a more perfect fit. It’s the little things. Some are happy watching TV. Some are happy reading books. Some are happy napping. I’m happy any time I have a reason to decorate for a holiday or season. To each their own.
My previous potting bench was an old table I rescued from the trash. It’s lasted many years for me but has seen better days and had developed quite a bow in the middle. It was time for an update. I wanted something with more height and room for decorating in addition to space for actually using it as a potting bench. I looked for ready-made online but nothing was exactly what I was looking for. I knew it was something we could build so I searched for free plans online. This is what we made from free plans found...
