In the past I’ve always waited until Flag Day, June 14th, to pull out the red, white and blue. But two weeks just isn’t long enough so this year I started a new tradition. The patriotic decor and American flags will come out for Memorial Day and stay until the 4th of July. I’ve got nothing to decorate for again until Halloween so I’ve got to get my fix while I can.

I actually don’t have a lot of 4th of July decor so I just add things here and there around the house. One spot is this picture ledge shelf my son made me. It tends to be the perfect place for holiday decorations.

The architectural stars were an antique find years ago. They stay out nearly year-round but also work perfectly for the 4th of July. I made the Olde Glory sign ages ago when my kids were little and still love it. I also use things around the house that can double as summer decor like my beach bag and a pair of sunglasses. Really the only decoration I purchased here a few years ago is the felt ball garland.

American flags are a must each year. This year I added them to one of my vintage milk glass vases. All very simple touches that put me in the mood for summer and fireworks. Do you decorate for the 4th of July?
