SKILLET APPLE PIE

By using pre-made pie crusts and apple pie filling, this “homemade” pie comes together in minutes. That means less time in the kitchen, more time enjoying the long weekend and a sweet treat for everyone.
When it’s time to clean the cast iron skillet, be sure to season it after with this DIY cast iron seasoning.
Skillet Apple Pie
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
(2) refrigerated pie crust dough rounds
21-ounce can apple pie filling
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Melt 7 tablespoons butter in a 9-inch cast-iron skillet. Reserve the remaining 1 tablespoon butter for later.
- To the melted butter, add the brown sugar. Stir, cooking on medium heat, about 2 minutes.
- Remove pan from the heat and line the skillet with one of the two pie crusts.
- Pour apple pie filling over the crust.
- In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon together.
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the apple pie filling.
- Cover the filling with the second pie crust.
- Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon butter in a small bowl.
- Brush the top pie crust with the melted butter.
- Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar.
- Cut an "X" in the top pie crust to create a vent in the middle of the pie.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Serve warm or cooled. Top with ice cream or whipped topping, if desired.
