HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING
05/02/2023With Cinco de Mayo coming up in a few days, it’s time to get prepared by making our own clean homemade taco seasoning. I like to make multiple batches at a time and store it in an airtight jar so it’s on hand whenever I need it. It can be stored for up to a year so make plenty and never have to worry about running to the grocery store for a packet of taco seasoning again.
When making your own homemade taco seasoning, don’t be afraid to adjust the ingredients and measurements to your liking. For instance, I am not a fan or oregano or spicy/hot so I omit the oregano and red pepper flakes from my seasoning. If you really like pepper, add more. Can’t do salt? Don’t add it. Play around until you have perfected the perfect mixture for you. Then make plenty to last all year.
Taco Seasoning
Always have taco seasoning at the ready by making your own. This recipe makes 2 tablespoons seasoning. Be sure to double or triple to have plenty on hand.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
Directions
- In a bowl, stir together together all ingredients.
- Store in an airtight container for up to one year.
Notes
- Most taco seasoning packets have 2 to 3 tablespoons of seasoning in them. Substitute homemade taco seasoning for a store bought packet by adding 2 to 3 tablespoons of the homemade taco seasoning, ⅓ cup water and 1 tablespoon cornstarch per pound of browned ground beef.
