CANDY CANE STOVETOP POTPOURRI
12/19/2022We have officially reached Christmas week! Are you ready? I’m 100% not ready yet. I’m pretty sure for every year you grow older, time passes by 10% faster. That would be why I feel like my head is spinning all the time. I had so many holiday projects I wanted to try and share. I’m still going strong trying to finish as many as possible before Christmas. While I spend the evenings cramming in all things Christmas, my kitchen smells of sweet licorice from this stovetop potpourri recipe.
This is a fun twist on the usual simmer pot using oranges, cranberries and cinnamon sticks. This recipe uses cinnamon sticks, star anise, vanilla beans, candy canes and coconut. The coconut is optional and mainly for looks. It does not smell when simmered.
The mixture in a glass jar tied with red and white baker’s twine with a sprig of greenery makes a great handmade gift. The ingredients won’t quickly spoil and look adorable as decor on the counter, as well.
When ready, add the mixture to simmering water. Be sure to keep an eye on the water level and refill if the pot gets too dry.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a yummy smelling house.
