CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO | 2024 VACATION
04/23/2024Back in January we escaped the Missouri snow to enjoy a week in Cabo San Lucas with family. It was the vitamin D shot we so badly needed in the middle of winter. The cool 65 degree mornings and breezy 80 degree afternoons were perfection. It was the first trip out of the country with our child as an adult. (The other adult child opted to stay home.) Traveling with an adult child meant no longer having to entertain 24/7. The goal in Cabo was relaxation and it was glorious. I did not even take my big camera on this trip (which I mildly regret). All photos were taken on my old iPhone 11.
We stayed at the Hacienda Encantada Resort. Everyone there was so nice and welcoming.
This was the view of the ocean from the infinity pool, my favorite spot in the resort.
Our room just happened to open right up to three pools and a hot tub. Mornings and afternoons were spent in the beach chairs by the pool. Our room’s covered patio was the perfect napping spot after hours at the pool.
There was the prettiest church up on the hill that made for the perfect morning walk.
It was the perfect peaceful whale watching spot. We were lucky enough to be there during prime whale season. The sounds of their blow holes echoed off the rocks as mommas and their babies breached and played.
We did leave the resort to explore town many times, too. Mornings not spent walking around the resort were spent enjoying the sites around the marina.
We had many delicious meals around town. Guacamole made at the table at Baja Cantina was out of this world. The tamarind margaritas were my fav.
The first night in Cabo, our daughter had, not one, but two admirers at our various stops. One waiter brought a shot and flowers to the table and left his name and number while the entire restaurant looked on. Those flowers smelled amazing and lasted the entire week we were there.
Her second admirer was at The Giggling Marlin, a super fun interactive bar. We played a game of giant Jenga with the entire place where I walked up for my turn, kicked the leg of the table and almost knocked the whole thing over. Story of my life! They also managed to talk my husband into a hanging shot. When in Cabo…
The Chiefs played a playoff game while we were there. Thankfully, my cousin is a regular and knew to reserve a table at the Cabo Cantina way in advance for our group to watch the game. The place was packed. Chiefs fans were seated on one side of the bar and Ravens fans on the other which made for plenty of kind-hearted cheering and trash talking. It was such a fun time made even better by a Chiefs win.
Early one morning, the guys tried their hand at deep sea fishing while the ladies enjoyed their sleep. Two of the guys caught marlins. My husband’s catch was an impressive 118″ long, 208 pounds. He got a quick photo before it was returned back to the ocean.
After a successful morning of fishing, they picked the ladies up at the marina for sight-seeing and whale watching. A whale fully breached right in front of our boat and, of course, I didn’t have my phone ready.
The sites from the ocean were beautiful.
Between the two large granite rock formations was Lover’s Beach, one of the calmest swimmable beaches on the Sea of Cortez side.
Around the bend on the Pacific Ocean side was Divorce Beach, aptly named for the crashing waves and strong rip tides. It’s more of a sunbathing beach.
No idea what he was doing with his face but it’s the only photo of us we got on the boat.
It was such a fun trip with family we don’t see but a few times a year. Sadly we never got any photos of the whole group. Guess we’ll just have to go again soon, this time with our son, as well. I’m forever grateful for the experience and fun memories made. I’m even more grateful for the opportunity to escape Missouri in January even if only for a week.
