HALLOWEEN JACK-O-LANTERN FOCACCIA BREAD
10/28/2023Focaccia bread but make it Halloween.
I shared an easy focaccia bread recipe HERE awhile back. This time I tried making the dough using sour dough starter. I got the recipe HERE. I used a sweet potato for the jack-o-lanterns, a turnip for the ghosts, olives for the spiders and pepitas for the fall leaves. I was able to grab the last bits of rosemary and chives from the garden before the freeze got to them and used them for grass. I also sprinkled regular and black sesame seeds and flaky sea salt over the top.
This is my version before baking.
And here it is after baking.
One tip I learned recently is to use regular olive oil when making focaccia instead of extra virgin olive oil. EVOO has a lower smoke point which causes the bottom of the bread to brown too quickly and burn.
Cute, festive and easy to make from scratch. I think I might be addicted to making seasonal focaccia bread designs. The best part is, the toppings slide right off so picky eaters need not worry about any strange vegetables.
