2022 HALLOWEEN RECAP + 2023 PREP
08/29/2023I know it’s not anywhere near time for Halloween yet. I won’t start decorating until the end of September but I have started prepping what I plan to do this year. Things seem to get more elaborate as each year passes and it takes me longer to prep. Not sure how that happens but I love it. I kind of regret not putting more effort into Halloween when the kids were little. Don’t get my wrong, I put ALL the effort into their costumes each year. But I never dressed up with them and I mainly only decorated for fall with just a touch of Halloween. These days I go all out for Halloween, then fall for Thanksgiving and out with a giant bang for Christmas. I guess it’s because I have more time now that I’m not running kids here and there but it sure doesn’t seem like I have more time.
I thought it would be fun to take a quick look back at a bit of Halloween 2022 before I share my plans for this year. You can also see all past Halloween blog posts HERE.
Now for this year’s plan. I have always struggled with whether to make the decorations cute or spooky so this year I plan to make the house cute and the barn spooky. We usually sit at the end of our driveway for trick-or-treaters but this year we’re mixing it up a bit and hosting trick-or-treaters at the spooky barn.
I’m eliminating the spiders on the back of the barn and going with something a bit more “hairy” that will come alive at night. We have a new addition to our barn skeleton family. And the bats will stay in the bat house this year to be replaced with black crows and spooky trees.
As for the house, I’m still scheming. I want to change up the front porch from last year but I haven’t figured out exactly how yet. I’m thinking pretty fall florals and grapevine with a touch of Halloween. And I have the back patio to decorate now, too. Someone stop me! The best part is, October 1st is my birthday so the entire family spends the day with me and we decorate together. Best birthday presents ever.
